Over the weekend, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) launched a series of carefully coordinated precision airstrikes targeting key Boko Haram strongholds nestled within the rugged Mandara Mountains in Borno State.
According to military sources, the operation was aimed at dismantling major terror enclaves used by the insurgents as hideouts, training camps, and staging grounds for attacks. The Mandara Mountains, located near the Nigeria-Cameroon border, have long served as a strategic refuge for the terrorist group due to the difficult terrain and natural cover.
Surveillance and intelligence gathered over several days confirmed unusual militant activities and concentrations in the area, prompting the swift and strategic deployment of fighter jets and drones. The targeted air raids reportedly struck critical locations with high insurgent presence, destroying logistics hubs and neutralizing several fighters.
Residents in nearby communities reported hearing loud explosions and witnessing military aircraft hovering for hours. No civilian casualties were reported, as the operation was executed with a focus on minimizing collateral damage.
Military authorities have assured that follow-up operations are ongoing, as the air force continues to monitor the area to prevent regrouping or escape by fleeing terrorists.
