A chilling discovery has sent shockwaves through the Umumba Ndiagu community in the Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, following the uncovering of a suspected ritual killing site linked to a native doctor named Onyeka Obu. Known locally as Ozo Ezeani and by the ominous nickname “E dey play, E dey show,” Onyeka Obu was allegedly caught after multiple decomposing bodies were found buried in a sewage pit within the premises of his residence. The gruesome case came to light when a 13-year-old girl was abducted and subsequently rescued from the same pit by vigilant local community members.
The horrifying incident unfolded when two boys, reportedly working under the native doctor, allegedly abducted the young girl from the village. The girl’s father, a witness to the abduction, quickly raised the alarm by informing the community’s vigilante group, initially believing it to be a straightforward kidnapping case. Acting swiftly, the vigilantes traced the kidnappers to Onyeka Obu’s compound. Upon forcing entry into an unfinished building on the property, they heard the terrified cries of the girl emanating from the sewage pit and immediately launched a rescue operation.
A member of the vigilante group involved in the rescue described the harrowing scene: “When we entered the house, we found the girl trapped in the pit. As we shone our torches into the dark recesses, we were horrified to see several dead bodies decomposing in the sewage pit. We managed to rescue the girl alive.” The pit, located at an ongoing construction site owned by the native doctor, has since become the central focus of ongoing investigations by local authorities.
The discovery has ignited widespread outrage and fear among residents of the community. Video footage circulating on social media has reportedly captured graphic and disturbing scenes from the site, further fueling public anger. In response to the grim revelations, enraged youths took to the streets, setting fire to the suspect’s home and vehicles. The government of Enugu State swiftly responded by demolishing the property linked to Onyeka Obu, as part of a broader crackdown on ritual killings and violent crimes. This move aligns with the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards kidnappers and ritualists operating within its borders.
Further complicating the case are allegations that Onyeka Obu was connected to a secretive and shadowy group known as the “White Club Kingdom.” Though members of this group purportedly operated under the guise of a harmless social fraternity, sources claim their activities were far more sinister. In the wake of the scandal, other traditional healers in the area have publicly distanced themselves from Onyeka Obu, vehemently denying any association with him or his alleged deeds.
Following the incident, Vitalis Ndu, the Chairperson of Ezeagu Local Government Area, personally visited the site and promptly reported the matter to the Enugu State Government. In a decisive move on Tuesday night, the government ordered the demolition of the suspect’s property to send a strong message that such criminal activities will not be tolerated. Josh Ejeh, an aide to Governor Peter Mbah, shared footage of the demolition online, reinforcing the government’s stance with the statement: “No room for kidnappers and ritualists in Enugu.”
As investigations continue, the police authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the case.
