U.S. Aids Israel in Missile Defense.

On June 13, 2025, Iran launched over 150 ballistic missiles and more than 100 drones targeting Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, in retaliation for Israel's Operation Rising Lion, which struck Iranian nuclear facilities. The U.S. military responded by deploying Navy destroyers, such as the USS Bulkeley and USS Cole, equipped with SM-3 interceptors, successfully downing several Iranian missiles over the Eastern Mediterranean. Additionally, the U.S. deployed a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system to bolster Israel's missile defenses.

President Biden emphasized the "ironclad" U.S. commitment to Israel's security, stating that American forces helped intercept the majority of the Iranian projectiles. Despite these efforts, some missiles evaded defenses, causing casualties and damage in Israeli cities.

Iran accused the U.S. of supporting Israel's offensive, claiming to have evidence of American involvement, though the U.S. denied direct participation in the strikes. The situation remains volatile, with concerns about further escalation and the potential for broader regional conflict.
