Manchester City manager Josep Pep Guardiola has been honored with an honorary doctorate from the University of Manchester, recognizing his exceptional contributions to the city both on and off the football pitch since his arrival in 2016.
The prestigious accolade was bestowed upon Guardiola during a special ceremony, celebrating his remarkable achievements with Manchester City, including six Premier League titles and a historic Champions League victory. Beyond his on-field successes, the university highlighted his significant community involvement, notably through the Guardiola Sala Foundation, which has played a vital role in various local initiatives.
Expressing his gratitude, Guardiola reflected on his nine-year tenure in Manchester, stating, "I have spent nine years here and it has become home. The people, the culture, my incredible football club, my colleagues ... it is all so special to me and my family."
Professor Duncan Ivison, the university’s president and vice chancellor, praised Guardiola as an "innovator and a winner who has inspired millions of people through his success as a manager." He added, "He has played a huge role in making Manchester a global ... , and we are honored that he has ... ."
