Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), bringing along all members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) from his state. The defection ceremony was marked by the presence of prominent political figures, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, underscoring the significance of this political shift.

This move highlights the dynamic and often fluid nature of Nigerian politics, where politicians frequently change party affiliations in response to evolving political landscapes and strategic interests. Notably, key political figures such as Atiku Abubakar have been members of almost every major political party in Nigeria over the years, reflecting a broader trend of shifting loyalties. Similarly, Peter Obi has been associated with three different political parties and is reportedly preparing to join a fourth, while Rabiu Kwankwaso has also moved through three parties during his political career. Their followers often mirror these movements, further illustrating the fluidity and complexity of party politics in Nigeria.

These frequent party changes reveal the ongoing realignments and power struggles within Nigerian politics, as politicians and their supporters navigate alliances to maximize their influence and electoral prospects. The defection of Umo Eno and his group to the APC is a significant development in this ever-changing political environment, signaling potential shifts in regional and national power balances.
