Governor Fubara Meets President Tinubu Amid Political Tensions in Rivers State.

On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara met with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos. The meeting, held at the President's residence, was closed to the press, and no official details have been released regarding the discussion.

This meeting occurs in the context of ongoing political instability in Rivers State. In March 2025, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state, citing intense political instability that had paralyzed governance and threatened national stability. Consequently, Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the state's House of Assembly were suspended for an initial period of six months. Retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas was appointed as the Administrator to oversee the state's affairs during this period.

Despite the suspension, Governor Fubara has continued to engage in political activities. In January 2025, he met with President Tinubu alongside his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Ogoni leaders to discuss issues related to the Niger Delta region. However, tensions between Fubara and Wike have persisted, with reports indicating that the two have avoided direct interaction during joint appearances.

The recent meeting between Governor Fubara and President Tinubu may signal ongoing efforts to address the political crisis in Rivers State. While the specifics of their discussion remain undisclosed, the engagement underscores the importance of dialogue in resolving political disputes and restoring stability in the region.

As the situation develops, stakeholders and observers will be watching closely for any indications of progress toward resolving the political impasse in Rivers State.
