A devastating car crash in Spain has claimed the lives of Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota and his younger brother, André Silva, a professional footballer for Penafiel in Portugal's second division.

According to a police statement, the tragic accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. local time in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora province. Authorities reported that the luxury car they were traveling in — a Lamborghini — lost control while overtaking another vehicle, due to a sudden tyre blowout. Moments later, the car veered off the road and burst into flames.

“The information we have is that the car, a Lamborghini, left the road due to a tyre blowout while overtaking. It then set on fire. The accident happened in the municipality of Cernadilla in Zamora at around 00:30 local time. Two people died,” police confirmed.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly but were unable to save either occupant. Both Jota and his brother died at the scene, sending shockwaves through the footballing world.

Tributes have poured in from fans, teammates, clubs, and officials worldwide, mourning the loss of two talented athletes. The football community remains in deep sorrow over this sudden and heartbreaking tragedy.
