In a shocking and highly unusual security breach, a man was apprehended after he reportedly hid overnight in the ceiling of an FCMB (First City Monument Bank) branch in an attempt to hack into the bank's systems.
The incident occurred at the FCMB branch located in Secretariat. According to eyewitnesses and bank staff, the suspect entered the bank during normal business hours, posing as a regular customer. Instead of conducting any financial transaction, he made his way to the restroom and locked himself inside without drawing attention.
As the workday came to an end and staff gradually exited the premises, the suspect reportedly climbed into the ceiling void above the restroom, hiding there until the bank was completely deserted. He remained there through the night, waiting for the right moment to carry out his plan.
The following morning, as staff returned to begin the day’s operations, they noticed something strange — the restroom door was still locked from the inside. Sensing something was wrong, they forced the door open. To their shock, they discovered the man descending from the ceiling, tampering with the bank’s computer systems.
“A customer entered our FCMB bank at Secretariat yesterday. He went straight to the toilet, locked himself inside, and climbed up into the ceiling. After closing hours, he came down and began tampering with the computer systems. This morning, when my colleagues arrived, they noticed the restroom was still locked. They broke the door open and found him. As we switched on the system, it was already showing a message that looked like it had been compromised.”
The case is now under investigation, with authorities trying to determine the extent of the attempted breach, whether any data was accessed, and if the suspect acted alone. The incident has prompted calls for banks to review their security measures and nighttime protocols to prevent future occurrences.
