Victor Boniface Retires from International Football at 24.

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 24. Despite a stellar club career with Bayer Leverkusen, where he scored 21 goals in the 2023–24 season and helped secure a domestic double, Boniface struggled to replicate this form on the international stage.

In 13 appearances for Nigeria, he managed just one goal, leading to criticism from fans and analysts. Former Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi highlighted the challenges Boniface faced, noting the lack of cohesion and understanding in the national team compared to his club environment. Onazi emphasized that the national team's style and limited training time made it difficult for Boniface to perform at his best.

Boniface's decision to retire comes after a series of underwhelming performances, including Nigeria's 2-1 loss to Rwanda in a 2025 AFCON qualifier, where he failed to make a significant impact. Fans expressed their disappointment, questioning his contributions to the team.

While his international career may have been brief, Boniface's achievements at the club level remain commendable. His focus now shifts entirely to his role at Bayer Leverkusen, where he continues to be a key player.
