A significant number of youths have taken to the streets of Abuja to demand the immediate release of activist and social media influencer Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM). The protests erupted in response to his recent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), although details surrounding the circumstances of his detention remain unclear.

The demonstrators gathered at the junction leading to the EFCC headquarters in the Jabi area of Abuja, expressing their outrage over what they perceive as an unjust action against Otse. Chanting slogans like “He’s not a thief, Now VDM has blocked the road, Release VDM,” the protesters made their voices heard, emphasizing their belief in his innocence and calling for his freedom.

Carrying placards with various inscriptions that highlighted their demands and support for Otse, the youths united in a show of solidarity. Their banners bore messages advocating for justice and freedom of expression, reflecting a growing concern among young Nigerians regarding the government's approach to dissent and criticism.

As the protest continued, it became clear that the youths were not only rallying for Otse's release but were also voicing broader frustrations with the current administration's handling of civil liberties. The atmosphere was charged with energy, as participants urged passersby to join their cause, underscoring a collective determination to stand up against perceived oppression.

The protest serves as a reminder of the power of youth activism in Nigeria, as these young individuals mobilize to defend their rights and advocate for their peers. The unfolding situation around VeryDarkMan has sparked conversations about freedom of speech and the treatment of activists in the country, with many calling for accountability from the authorities.
